    Description
    Antique 18th-19th century Indian gold gilded solid silver jeweled Islamic Indian turban pin brooch, ornament, Sarpech - Aigrette, a bracket for a plume of feathers attached to the turban.
    DETAILS: This impressive Sarpech is of a classical Islamic form, composed of extremely well-made several separate elements of gold gilded solid silver joined together including the tapering gilt stem with a spear head shaped point. The upper part of the pin is adorned with large palmette terminal of a scrolling form, carved, and decorated with openwork and filigree an intricate floral design with meandering branches and flowers and set with 25 various sizes and shape cut-faceted natural gemstone pink rubies on each stone secured by claw settings. The reverse has the original clasp for the attachment. The artifact is apparently unmarked as most antique Indian jewelry.
    CONDITION: Very good condition with some wear to the lower part of the spear pointed steam due to age.
    MEASUREMENTS: Overall length: 10.1 cm (3.98 inches)
    WEIGHT: 11.2 grams
    Throughout the Muslim world historical turban ornaments of various shapes were worn by the Muslim rulers and Islamic aristocracy as emblems of might and material wealth; they were particularly popular in the Mughal India, Ottoman Turkey and in the Islamic Persian Empire.
    Serpech it was still used as a turban ornament by the Indian upper class in the 19th century India during the Victorian era.
